High-Definition Surveying Helps Surveyors Stay Busy and Profitable – Even During a Recession; Free Webcast Shows How

26 August 2009

(Norcross, Ga., 26 August 2009) While the construction industry has been hit hard by the recession, many surveying companies equipped with high-definition scanning (HDS™) technology are actually seeing their businesses grow.

On September 1, 2009, at 2pm EST, Michael Harvey, Product Marketing Manager - Scanning for Leica Geosystems, will present a free webcast for surveyors, “The Business of Laser Scanning: Hype or Competitive Advantage?”
on how surveyors can boost sales and profits by diversifying their business – specifically, by handling both routine and complex high-precision surveys by using the latest HDS™ technology. During this webcast, you will learn how to:

 Lower costs and submit more competitive job bids.
 Win more contracts for both routine surveys and high-end jobs.
 Meet the requirements of customers incorporating HDSTM into their project specifications.
 Reduce labor, increase safety, and boost profit margins on every job.
 Improve customer satisfaction with more accurate and detailed surveying reports.

“The recession has resulted in hard times for many surveyors,” says Harvey, noting that new construction starts for 2009 are forecast to decline 15% from 2008 levels, and the price of the average home in the U.S. dropped 16% in 2008.

But surveyors offering HDS™ services remain busy and profitable: ”The laser scanning industry is undergoing explosive growth as more and more surveyors see the business advantages of using HDS™ technology,” says Harvey. According to industry sources, the HDS industry revenues more than tripled from $80 million in 2002 to over $275 million in 2006, with more than 3,000 HDS instruments in use today.

With HDS™, notes Harvey, surveyors can now bid successfully on large, complex jobs that were either too labor-intensive to profit from or too risky for field crews.
